Mothers Against Murderers Association (MAMA) is an organization that works in Northern Palm Beach County, Florida.
In 2003 Founder, Angela Williams lost her dear nephew Torrey Manuel to senseless gun violence. Angela’s bereft sister was extremely heartbroken and couldn’t cope with the loss of her son. As Angela helped her sister to hold on, she found an empathy deep inside her. Living in a economically disadvantaged neighborhood, she saw bullets falling like leaden rain and children falling under their lethal bite. Angela left her job and has devoted her life to helping bereaved mothers to get through their grief and move into a healing place.
Many mothers find themselves in this predicament: a shocking phone call comes in the middle of the night along with the life-changing news that their child has passed away due to senseless gun violence. Most of these mothers are impoverished single women who lack the resources in order to give their child a proper burial. They are in need of help to get them through the additional anguish of the funeral. Food, clothing and having the empathetic ear of friendship are most needed.
MAMA’s goal is to encourage their clients to transform their tragedy into a benefit for themselves and society. One way to do this is by speaking out in order to help youngsters take a constructive path in life. Ultimately Angela’s aim is to help contribute to the prevention of gun violence in financially disadvantages communities.
